Self-imposed deprivation, the kind I am talking about, is… crazy.
I listen to people carefully and love the various ways that we express ourselves. I love hearing the ways that people speak about their passions, their cravings, the things in life they love and adore.
Somebody says “Orange is my favorite color” or ” I love dancing it always makes me feel so free” or they talk about how being by the ocean is their cure-all for everything.
Then here’s the part that’s curious… the disconnect or the deprivation part. I’ll go to their house an notice there is not a speck of the color orange anywhere. Or I’ll ask, “so when was the last time you actually put on music and danced or went somewhere and lost yourself in the music” or ask about how much time they’re spending at the ocean…Uh…nothing. Nope, more times than not these expressions of passion, the KNOWING of what lights you up and transforms you in a flash is totally missing. You know how to add more gorgeousness and pleasure, you know many of the specifics of what needs to be brought in and yet. What the hell is this about?!
It’s about deprivation. It’s about not taking your needs seriously enough. It’s about living reactively moment to moment instead of consciously creating a life that is beautiful and sacred for you.
I am not overstating the case when I say that honoring those pieces that light up your senses, fill your heart, reflect your individual spectacular self and truth and way of being in the world absolutely must be brought into form. Like now, please.
What exactly are you waiting for?
So no, you don’t have to paint an entire room orange. Get rid of the perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking that will stop you in your tracks from taking any small action. Buy some orange tea roses. Fill a beautiful bowl with oranges. Consider a day trip to the ocean, no matter what the season just to smell the salty sea air. Do something that feels good. Get your itunes play list out and dance your heart out.
Hanging out in your senses is a gorgeous gift you can do in millions of tiny ways. I just filled 3 vases of the late season assortment of magnificent hydrangeas from our gardens that will soon be gone. The colors are rich and magnificent and I am enjoying them as much as I can knowing the season is ending. So beautiful, and the cutting and snipping and arranging was absorbing and pleasurable and soothing in all the best ways. And simple.
Stop depriving yourself. Go fill up with a little beauty. Think about what you love, what you speak of loving, the little luxuries that spin your heart open.
I want that for you.
With love and beauty from my heart to yours,
Lisa

Hi Amanda- so glad and of course it’s simple in theory but taking time to create what you want and what brings more pleasure is more of an investment… and yet you’ll feel incredible when you take yourself seriously this way. Keep it simple, and take small steps, the payoff is always worthwhile. Enjoy and thanks for commenting. Love, Lisa
