Anxiety-driven eating- it’s like a double whammy. First, you are already anxious or fearful about something, then to top it off you are eating over it- could you feel ANY worse?!!
So which do you try to go after? The eating or the anxiety?
If you are like most women I see, you are usually tempted to
try to wrestle with your eating.
It’s not working very well, is it?
What I know from working with so many women and teens, and from my own journey with weight and my body, is that eating is just what catches our attention, but if we don’t look at the energy beneath it, we will be frustrated and our efforts will go nowhere.
Instead, see if you can find the “kernel” of emotion, or negative -belief that came up just before. I found myself in an anxious
spin just this morning, inspiring (if one could call it that….) this
post.
The simplest way I have found to get at the undercurrent is to take stock of your body. Stop whatever it is that you are doing and pause- closing your eyes will help you tune in better- notice where there is any tension or “charge” in your body- and then
see if you can allow that “energy” to give you some information.
For example- when we are anxious or fearful, we will often feel it around the solar-plexus, just under our breastbone, where our
Power chakra is. You will feel the anxiety around your chest. If you get information intuitively about what is bothering you or triggering you in the moment, stay open and be curious- the quickest way to lose the connection to our intuition is to go
into judgement, or negative self-talk- try not criticize your self for any feelings you are having.
Next- ground yourself for relief. Put your hand over the place in your body that feels charged or anxious. Let yourself just bring your attention to that place in your body and just breathe into it- imagine you are breathing light and healing into the anxious parts.
This will give your nervous system the signal to stop producing
hormones around fight-or-flight, and bring some calm, soothing energy to the rest of you.
This is really simple. In the future, I will be talking increasingly from the perspective of energy-healing, and the chakras, the main energy centers that influence the body.
The most powerful healing I have seen with my clients, has been by teaching them to use their energy system to release old beliefs, painful feelings and traumas stored in the body, and protecting themselves from encounters with negative energies in daily life.
You may have questions about this- not everyone is familiar with the Chakras, or energy-related topics, although many people are learning, especially as the Law of Attraction and “The Secret” bring them into our culture.
For now, be well, and begin to practice noticing what is happening in your body, as a way to “read” your energy and your experiences, not just around eating/weight, but in your life. You will find you have tapped into an incredibly powerful system for guidance.
