I did not wake up feeling spa-light and inspired.. at ALL. And you will have days that you don’t either. First of all those kinds of expectations will lead you right into eating ice-cream out of cartons for breakfast and that we try not to do that when we are living at the spa.
The truth is, you don’t have to “feel like it” to do something good for yourself. You are less likely to be able to think yourself into positive action than you are to act yourself into feeling better.
I know from a lifetime of being a exercise addict lover of daily workouts, that all I have to focus on is getting my sneakers on. I can be totally unmotivated, sluggish, cranky, premenstrual, whatever, but if I just get those sneakers on I will be ok.
Some days you will NOT be inspired, you will not feel like it, don’t let that be the thing that you use to make decisions from. Routines, minus the thinking and obsessing, will totally save us.
They have saved me my whole life. I am not going to quote a famous sneaker manufacturer here no matter what, I will not utter that line. The one with just three words that basically says to get on with it. You know which one I mean- but I’m not going to be the one to repeat it- God knows we’ve all heard it MORE than enough.
Trust me that even if you woke up feeling cranky, hot, uninspired and a little off (in spite of a gorgeous spa-worthy Coconut Thai homemade soup with floating cilantro and kale and bok choy plus some Andy-grilled shrimp last night) that putting on your sneakers, or making a beautiful nourishing breakfast will turn things around a bit for you.
I did not feel like working out today but ran 30 minutes on my elliptical and added the despised weight-lifting routine for legs AND arms…. all while feeling very very cranky and hot. I felt better for doing it although to be honest I am still not feeling that great. I am missing my dog a lot today and that is kind of the way grief goes- some days are just worse than others.
My only message in all this is that you can feel everything you feel and still do something loving for yourself. You might as well considering the alternatives, which would only feel worse.
I still feel sad and blue and a bit grumpy but I got a great workout and had a really good breakfast (more fresh coconut) and that’s something to feel good about right?
