It’s NOT TIme For Weight Loss….If you’re struggling, there are good reasons!
Why YES, it IS snowing here again!! It’s Tuesday and that means it’s snowing and my teenage son Nicky is home from school. Actually he’s home because they’re afraid the roof is going to collapse from the 4 ft of snow and the many other roofs in the state collapsing from the weight of ALL THIS SNOW…..Ok, enough of that. But it’s been an unusually brutal crazy winter.
Which leads me into today’s topic about this not being the time to try to lose weight. It’s early February. And I’m already hearing lots of rumblings from friends and clients who are trying to force themselves into Spring-mode of lightening up…. before it’s Spring.
It’s not time.
The days are still very short and dark. And we are still very much meant to be in hibernation mode, dormant and quiet. And yet most of you are anything but.
There’s a reason for seasons. They show us how to pace ourselves. They are all different with different energies and tasks and yet we sometimes ignore their wisdom thinking we’re so clever for overriding Mother Nature.
Are we? Is it really working so well?
Do cold salads really satisfy you on a wintry snowy (the millionth day like it in a row it seems….. sigh…). Not if you’re payin’ attention they don’t. Sorry, not if you are attuned and really connected, there is no way.
Stop trying to force things. It’s normal to be a little heavier, a little sleepier, a little less motivated during Winter months. And if you are in the United States anywhere North or East or even in the other states where the weather has been bizarre this season, you’re feeling it.
It’s not time. It’s not natural. Stop it.
This is a time for more stillness and less doing. More sleep. Heavier more nourishing foods. And for trusting that as the days get longer and the light returns, you will naturally get your taste back for lighter foods, more activity, leafy greens and all that.
Learn to trust your IntuitiveBody and stop treating yourself like some sort of stubborn beast that needs to be beaten into submission. Look at your beliefs about who you think you are and what you think you need to do to shift into beautiful self care….
There’s some gentle work that needs to be done there yes? A little writing and meditating to get to the crux of why you feel that you have to push and force yourself to do things in these ways. OF why you see yourself as the enemy instead of as a trusted beautiful loving partner who wants what you want.
SO many things we can talk about but for now stay in the season. Rest a little more. Don’t deprive yourself of the starchy foods your body craves (I’m not talking about donuts) like a little brown rice, some of the root vegetables and sweet potatoes. Hearty soups and warm foods are what you will enjoy now. Warming spices like cinnamon and curry and cayenne… don’t deprive yourself of what will intuitively nourish your body and your spirit.
We all know that Spring does return and with it the traditions and energies that are unique to that season, but for now be in the Winter and the stillness and find what is beautiful and nourishing there.
With Love From My Heart to Yours,
Lisa
