It is almost February, and I have had an amazing number of new clients sign on in the last few weeks. Is this due to social pressure to make “resolutions” at this time of year? Truthfully, I am not quite sure. I do know that many of you are feeling at the place where you are recognizing how hard it is to deal with your eating addictions alone. and that is a GOOD thing!! Really…
Trying to deal with a longstanding addiction on your own usually fails, and adds more pain and distress to the mix. Those of us who struggle with these particular addictions regarding food and our bodies, are an amazingly resilient and tenacious bunch. I have NEVER seen a group so willing to pick themselves up and dust themselves off to try again, and again , and again….. Again, that IS a good thing.
What is NOT such a good thing is maybe the things you are trying. As in diets from the latest bestseller, from beauty magazines- diet after diet. We all KNOW that “diets don’t work” (duh!!) but we keep going back again because we don’t really know what the alternatives are. And truly, there are not many. Well, there are not many if you are looking for food-related fixes. We all pretty know more about what to eat than anyone else on the planet, don’t we? If you want to know about calories, carbs, we can rattle ’em off with the best of them!!
I have always been on the fence when it came to recommending specific eating plans to clients. I am not a nutritionist, and that is not my field. I also hesitate because a food plan tends to just be a diet by a nicer name. Those of us who have been on diets can sniff those out pretty fast, and will respond like we have to other diets that we have been on- in our own characteristic way. For some it will be to follow it “perfectly” , then make one mistake, and crash, into out of control eating or binging. Others will see “diet” and immediately begin eating everything in sight, feeling the impending deprivation and restrictions coming at us, and instinctively rebelling at another round of this. And so on.
BUT- my clients persist in asking me to help with this piece, and so I am going to do that. And as this post title suggests, I am not sure when I will do this again. I am going to offer a group which will give you all of the regular Intuitive Body guidance that I give in individual sessions, but with some focus on the food. Yes, there WILL even be a general food plan. I have had to think long and hard whether this fits with my work, and my wise and honest clients have assured me that it does, and that they need this right now. So here goes-
It is hard to be intuitive about your body and inner wisdom or ANYTHING ELSE for that matter when you are in the throes of
an addiction. Anybody that has felt numbed and druggy from sugar, flour, processed food, etc knows that food can act like a drug on those of us with chemical sensitivities and for those who are insulin-resistant (sorry, very medical term, but it is really relevant to our discussion here). This will not be a food plan/diet for weight loss. Please hear me- the purpose won’t be to lose weight, but to return to a state of clarity and wellbeing through a certain process, so as to regain the connection to your authentic, beautiful, whole Self. Are you still with me??? PSSST- SECRET: you will likely lose some weight , but really that is not our purpose. Trust me though, this will feel good, and you will get BOATLOADS of support and handholding from me and from the group.
As I said, I am not sure if or when I will do this again-
