You’re lost in a sea of overeating around the holidays- it’s a familiar scene and women that struggle with compulsive eating are waiting for that magical new beginning that comes every January 1st. I understand it’s not time to make big changes, and that it even feels pointless to try until after the big holidays are over.
Still, it can be comforting to begin to think about what you might be willing to commit to in 2010 regarding loving self-care. I’ve found that the only thing that truly pulls people out of longstanding struggles with food is starting with small consistent action.
For example- you could pick 2 small things to do every single day. I can feel all of you perfectionist types (all of us) turning up your noses at this, but don’t be fooled, this leads to big results.
You want something you can commit to. Things you will actually, umm, DO, every day!
Like adding a big salad to lunch
Shooting for 5-9 servings of fresh produce each day
Taking a half hour to move your body
Getting to bed an hour earlier.
These things aren’t about “weight loss”- which by the way if that is your focus you are almost doomed to fail…they are about self-care, which builds confidence and momentum and a foundation to build on.
Listen, I’ve been helping women with this stuff for years and years and have been my own best experiment. Take my advice- do it differently this year so you can feel successful, which will allow you to take better and better care of yourself all year. Without having to do anything drastic, or painful, and without any big highs or lows.
It’s a good way to go. You’ll feel better, really.
I want that for you.
Til tomorrow-
Love and xox,
Lisa
