Every year, I notice that calls to my business slow down right around now. And I am pretty sure that I know why- with Thanksgiving a few days away, and the whole holiday season officially getting underway, if you have been struggling with food and overeating, you are probably thinking “what’s the point”? Am I right?
You probably feel that there is no point in trying to change anything during the season of holidays that pretty much centers around food and overeating during this time of year. And so you put things off. You know you already feel out-of-control and that you probably won’t enjoy the holidays very much from the haze of sugar and too many heavy meals, but you are stuck in a place that feels powerless.
Powerlessness is like the devil on your shoulder, whispering to you that it’s pointless, you can’t do it and certainly not during the “holidays”. And not having found a reliable way out of the food yet anyways, you do nothing. Maybe you hope that this year will be better- perhaps you are thinking of ways to enjoy the holidays without letting the food be the main event. It’s so painful living this way, believe me I know all about it, and I can tell you there are ways to enjoy the holidays and feel good about yourself, while staying in your power and connected to your Higher Self. The part of you that wants to be healthy and can tolerate making some changes in order to feel better.
All of us are different, and yet if you struggle with food addiction and compulsive overeating, then we all have lots in common too. How would you like to feel during the holidays? You would probably not choose to feel drugged and lethargic
from overeating, or the subsequent shame and regret that go along with it.
You would ideally like to enjoy yourself, enjoy the company and the food and celebrate the holiday in connection to all of this, while honoring your needs to feel good about yourself. Let yourself connect with this image- of staying in alignment with your heart’s desire for these events. If feeling good is the most important thing to you, you may find that you can guide your eating accordingly. Shame and regret do not feel good- and you don’t have to go there.
Set your intention to treat yourself well this season. And I am here to help you if you want more specific guidance and strategies.
Wishing you peace and love,
Lisa
