Gratitude is one of the best antidotes I know for all of the pain that comes with compulsive eating or food addiction.Overeating and abuse of food to fill an experience of deprivation can be shifted when we take a few moments to count our blessings. Any time that you notice yourself feeling emotionally “needy” or overwhelmed by wanting something, whether it be food or something else, you can make a 180 degree turn with gratitude and appreciation.
Here are 10 blessings in my life that I am grateful for today-
1. A lazy Saturday rainy morning with no place to go and time to catch up on reading and hanging by the fireplace
2. Time alone with each of my sons this morning, to hear about their time with friends last night.
3. The inspiration to cook breakfast for my husband and surprise him with breakfast-in-bed
4. My 5 little dogs who miraculously did not wake me up until 6:38 am today, about an hour later than usual
5. 3 close girlfriends who called to chat today
6. A fabulous fun skirt that I got for $14 on E-Bay that I can wear tonite
7. No yard work today, due to rainy weather
8. The intoxicating smell of an exotic-vanilla coming from a bottle of wicking essential oils in my office
9. The peace that I feel as I look out my window at the rain, the colored leaves on the ground, and the sound of cars on the
rainy pavement.
10. A refrigerator filled with healthy fresh food to nourish my family and me today.
Simple, but just enumerating these allows my heart to open and be filled with peace and contentment.
I have always been a big believer in gratitude lists as a tool of recovery- A really nice time to write
them is just before bed, in a little journal dedicated to counting your blessings. It wraps up the day in
loving thoughts and energies, all the better to begin your journey to dreamtime, as you rest in the
wellbeing you have created.
Wishing you great peace and every blessing,
xox-
Lisa
