Good morning-
I was having my daily early-morning phone call with my dear friend Rosie Battista from http://www.AMatterofFit.com today. As always, we had plenty to say (my husband Andy is always baffled by how much more there is to talk about since the previous morning)… but Rosie and I are kindred spirits and talk business, marketing, food, exercise, faith, and dogs happily each morning around 7 am.
Anyways- both of us have been cleaning up our eating and fitness in more focused ways lately. We started to talk about ways we motivate ourselves. Rosie liked a projection chart of weeks and weight loss goals over time.
I knew for me, the focus on weight loss really goes badly fast. I’m guessing it has for you too.
As I’ve said before, for reasons I’m not totally clear on, weight loss as motivation tends to fail. We’ve been there before and failed before, often many times. How many times can you get genuinely excited around traditional diets, deprivation and everything that goes with it- you’ve done it and something has to change if you want real results in your health and fitness and bodyweight.
What I think helps is to understand that Weight Loss Is NOT Your Job
Your job is to commit to certain daily practices and check them off your list. I love shifting my compulsive, slightly obsessive nature towards positive practices. In my journal I make a checklist of the pieces that I do to move towards the results I want. Some are physical (like no sugar/flour/alcohol right now), some are spiritual (meditation, prayer), and some are emotional/mental (moving out negative energies via journal writing and other energy-moving activities).
I know that if I move through my Daily Essentials in the day, that it’s gonna add up.
So who takes care of the weight loss you may wonder?
In my belief, that’s a job for the Divine, God, your Higher Power. If we take care of the daily drill, our bodies will do their best to support us- that’s written into our DNA and into our Divine Identity. You will be taken care of if you do your part. Don’t worry about the rest.

I’m about to meditate and then get outside for some much-needed sun on my face for my walk up the Harvard hills- to what I call “The Top of The World”- so beautiful, where all the apple orchards are.
