The Fear Factor
Hi there-
So there’s a lot of fear around all of us these days, isn’t there? It’s hard to have a normal conversation with anyone without things turning to the economy, the market, the prices of things…
All of this brings up what I call major “survival issues” for most of us. We all have old fears within us around having enough, being taken care of, being able to take care of ourselves, and the overall business of surviving on the planet.
When the media and the culture in general goes into survival-mode, it triggers tons of vulnerability in everyone, and we all have different ways of processing it.
For now, remember not to panic. And most importantly, take regular daily steps to protect your health and emotional well-being.
1. Stick to good daily self-care routines- getting enough rest, eating regular wholesome meals, finding time for relaxing are essential right now. These routines anchor you in feeling secure.
2. Avoid the media- The truth is that watching the news and absorbing the images over and over actually can cause what is called “vicarious traumatisation” and it will definitely make you feel more anxious and more vulnerable. Take in the bare minimum of news, or if possible avoid it.
3. Take stock, and connect with the blessings in your world. This is important and really helpful- Does your fridge have plenty of food? Do you have clothing, shoes, water? Do you have a place to rest your head at night? Notice this and say a little prayer of thanks- the truth is your immediate circumstances are the same and all is well when you look around and really remember what is.
4. Protect your energy and emotional systems- I would make every effort to surround yourself with people who are not dramatic, overly negative, or alarmist. Why go there? Yes, the world is changing, and you know what? It needs to change. Upsets in our world allow for the new to come in and transform what needs to be changed- it’s all unfolding in Divine Order. Place yourself near people who have faith that God and the Universe are orchestrating things just fine, in spite of any appearances to the contrary.
5. If you have never needed one before, consider developing a relationship with a Higher Power, whatever that means to you. Faith is a good thing to have when life appears uncertain and chaotic. A spiritual life brings great richness and comfort, meaning and more.
I wish you all good things, and every blessing-
