When it comes to just about anything, and most certainly around making changes to your way of nourishing your body and your self, timing is everything. Not so much as there being a “right time” to embark on the journey, but more to do with finding a way to allow it to unfold organically, in ways that honor you.
When women don’t like their bodies or feel ashamed at their ways of eating and the guilt and shame and impact of these on their weight, things can feel very urgent.
My clients come in wanting results quickly because they are in emotional pain. They want relief right away. Easy to understand- feeling out of control is intensified with the accompanying emotions of regret, shame, guilt. They believe they would do anything to feel better.
But it doesn’t work that way- Change can be just as uncomfortable and it’s important to understand any of the natural resistance that comes up when we try to do things differently.
One of the biggest parts of my job is helping clients make peace between the part of them that is in pain and wants “desperately” to change versus the need of their ego and personality to not disturb the status quo.
Positive change is rarely seeded in fear or desperation.
There is a more organic flow that needs to happen. Part of it begins in stepping out of the fear, finding a level of acceptance and forgiveness for being exactly where you are, and then finding small but supportive ways to honor your individual sense of timing.
This is an intuitive journey more than anything- the weight or the eating issues are the way your soul is getting you to take your needs seriously.
And only you can know how much change you can tolerate at any one time- it may be more or less than you would guess.
You have to FEEL your way through the process. Your body and your emotions are the feedback mechanism to let you know how fast or slowly to proceed.
When you make changes that emanate from this attuned guidance, moment by moment, you will find yourself moving forward steadily. And I will help you leave behind the negative self-judgments of how it “should be” unfolding, as those will always bring your journey to a halt.
When you are contemplating change of any kind, being in direct contact with your intuitive guidance around timing will bring success and considerably more ease and satisfaction to your efforts.
