Last week I had the pleasure of providing a guest blog on FitWoman.com, the blog of the weight management retreat Green Mountain at Fox Run in Ludlow, Vermont. It’s actually a 3-parter, given my long-winded answers to their great questions.
It began when Green Mountain’s Director Marsha Hudnall saw my post in January about the two styles of making peace with food and eating that I often see among my clients. You can see the original blogpost here, which was reposted on the FitWoman Blog.. Marsha and the Green Mountain staff provided some great Q and A and you can see that post here!
The third installment will be on the Fitwoman.com blog next week, with the rest of the Q and A.. I loved getting these questions because it got me to think more about styles of eating and exactly how I see women ultimately making peace with food.. what some of the commonalities are and some of the advantages and concerns that are helpful to consider.
I have great respect for the program at Green Mountain and their staff. I hope you get a chance to visit their blog- the content there supports a non-diet approach as I do and they have a lot of wisdom to share.
I always want that for you!.
New short term offerings for those of you who want to get very focused around learning to manage the issues around eating and loving your body in ways that feel just-right for you. I loved their questions for you! Insightful and thought-provoking. I got a real visual when you presented the idea of “protection” from certain foods – so different from what the “dieting” or “nutrition” culture speaks!

Teryll, me too, the questions were great and helped me think more about what I wrote (always a good thing!). The concept of protection is big in the work I do with women.. never about deprivation, but about what serves you and what works against you whether specific foods or people or activities.. We are all very individual.. paying attention to our guidance/intuitive bodies is what will shore up great information.. love to you.. Lisa

Such a beautiful way to work towards peace. We need food, it can only be helpful to have a good relationship with it. Great work, you’re doing, Lisa!
Lisa says
Thanks Teresa…so many women crave “peace in their body”.. and it seems it should be a basic right.. xox Lisa

What a gift your answers are to Green Mountain…. and what a gift you are to all of us! xoxo

Thanks Michelle..love to you.. Lisa

I love how your work always makes room for the individual in the solution. There’s no “one size fits all” in true wellness, and I appreciate you for recognizing that, supporting it, and helping women find that for themselves. You are a gift. xoxo

Your comments really resonated with me, especially: **There’s no “one size fits all” in true wellness** – SO TRUE. It’s taken me a long time to understand this, but it’s so POWERFUL. Creates space for us to accept one another just as we are.
Lisa says
Teryll.. yes. truly, Acceptance..for ourselves and each other makes it so much easier and lets us find our way faster without having to plow through the layers of pain or resistance or judgement.. Glad you are finding your way (and that I got to meet your beautiful self!) Love to you (wish i was still in sunny L.A.) xox
Lisa says
This is such helpful feedback (as always) Jessica.. thank you. It really is so individual even though there are themes that are commonalities, ultimately we all need very personalized and intuitively guided routes to peace.. Love to you, Lisa

I love the work you are doing. As a food person (foodie?) I always feel this sense of calm when I stop by your blog. We all need to eat, and I enjoy the art of cooking, but you add a new layer to it by supporting women in their eating habits. Beautiful. xo
Lisa says
Tracey.. that is the nicest thing about feeling “calm” here..thank you so much. Your inspired relationship with food and the loving art of it inspires me.. I love the sensuality of it.. and I love for my clients to make room for that in moments when they can find their own inspiration.. even if it is only here and there. Love to you…Lisa

‘Women making peace with food’ just jumped off the page. I hadn’t thought of it in terms of a battle waged with food before…but that is what women do. Love this line Lisa. So happy to see you getting your message out to a larger audience.
Reading your blog always leaves me feeling more peaceful and accepting of myself.
Lisa says
Jacqueline…I love how you pick out certain things.. and that you are finding the peace.. (that word again.. what everyone is ultimately wanting.. what I hear from women over and over.. that is the universal want/need.. we want to feel peaceful/accepting). And I find that different women need different solutions to end the battle, to end the war. And that’s what I love helping with! Love to you..Lisa

“Making peace with food” – I love that you do this work Lisa!
Great interview and wonderful questions! It’s so cool how someone else’s questions allows you to go deeper into your work and see things from so many perspectives.
Lisa says
Leah!- thank you and yes, others’ questions are definitely amazing ways to help us expand our own perspective and the interview on Fitwoman.com helped me explore a topic that I hadn’t thought about in the same ways prior. They asked great questions and i was honored to be a guest blogger. Green Mountain at Fox Run is a facility that I have long admired. Love to you.. Lisa

Oh…if only more women DID make peace with food–I think they would immediately make more peace with their bodies and their selves. It feels like it would be the gateway to greater self love. I know that when I made more peace with food I made much much more peace with myself in general. I honor my body and self by feeding it well and not feeling guilty about cheat moments. Thank you for this. xx
Lisa says
Hi Danielle.. yes they would.. and not feeling guilty means there are no “cheat” moments!! Love, Lisa
