Today is Easter and I am experiencing my own renewal… what I am privately (well not if I’m writing about it..) referring to as my Resurrection Cleanse. Yes, it’s juice time again. 3 days of just juice, then juice with one meal. Then my birthday!
It was a tough winter. Not just crazy amounts of snow, but also crazy cold. I was more north than I’d ever been. Not just the move to New Hampshire last September, but also trekking up to the Tundra (my job in Vermont…last week there coming up!!!).
I never quite get used to the seasonal weight gain even though I know it’s biological, evolutionary, and all. When the days get shorter, I get a little heavier. I need to make peace with this and I am beginning to. No major damage done but just enough that I felt not as light, not as happy in my body.
Overall, I am not a body-hater…not mine, and not yours. I try to look at what’s good, healthy, strong, vital…all of that. And I wait for spring.
I can tell it’s time for a major springtime overhaul when I am eating too much sugar, too often..mildly addicted- and when I feel my body wants the freshness and lightness of fruits and vegetables.
Knowing what you know about what to eat and when to eat it always feels good. Deciding to do a juice fast is intuitively guided… there is just that time when I am inspired and ready.
Yesterday I combined my favorite healer/healing session (acupuncture with my beloved Tom Tam…actually saw his assistant yesterday though) and a trip to Whole Foods to buy juice. I felt incredibly relaxed and balanced
I’ve never bought juice before, I’ve always made my own with a Breville juicer.
But our kitchen is much smaller since the move and the juicer is huge as is the production of peeling and chopping and I knew if I had to do that this time around, I wouldn’t.
There are new juices on the market… and IN the market. New technology that allows the juices to sit in refrigerated cases in upscale natural grocery stores just waiting for us to spend crazy amounts of money to buy them.
These juices are expensive. But organic. GMO free. Delicious. Easy. I didn’t care, I wanted to get started, stay inspired, and make it beautiful and easy and delicious. And it is.
I am in love with Suja juices. Beautiful products and packaging, lovely website…making all of this easy. Easy is good when you’re starving (kidding, sort of).
I am not particularly hungry. My body has loved fresh juice for the last few years or so that I’ve been making and drinking it. It agrees with me and there are times when the simplicity is the best choice for me.
I use my huge glass green goblet for all of my juice servings. On most of the prepared juice cleanses they recommend 6 juices daily. That’s felt about right. I started with hot water and lemon and fresh ginger in the morning. I have been off of my beloved coffee and cream for a few years now and still miss it but can’t do the coffee or the dairy- in my 50’s my system has become even more sensitive.
