It always amazes me how our bodies react when they hear an incontrovertible truth. I heard one of the most powerful statements ever last Sunday. And yes, it came out of Caroline Myss’ mouth. She was in Boston doing a day long seminar with Wayne Dyer. And somehow I hadn’t realized it was going to be on a Sunday, or I would have been there with bells on. Sunday morning when I went online to try to get a ticket, I realized it was that day, that it was sold out, but that I could get the live-stream online and still tune in.
I was at my kitchen counter happily chopping fresh beets, butternut squash, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and kale that I was going to roast in a humungous pan...very content to be cooking AND get a dose of Caroline Myss coaxing me to embrace the truth of life. I heard her tone become more intense and knew she was about to say something big. And she did. I don’t know if it will hit you the same way it did me but I dropped my knife and ran to my computer to take a quick note. What she said was ” Nutrition is no match for deceit”. OH MY GOD..
I’ve heard her make similar points before; the disdain for those who mistake true spiritual practice for eating organic food or practicing yoga, or driving a Prius -I’ve heard her use all of these examples as what gets mistaken for living a spiritually based life. Myss stresses that if you are living a life of dishonesty or betrayal, you might as well eat cat food or do drive-through fast food. Well, yeah…. when you put it that way.
The passion and devotion with which so many bring to their way of eating is displaced. It’s not going to bring salvation if it’s built on a foundation of other not so pristine practices. Raw, vegan, organic, gluten free… whatever. It really does seem kind of ridiculous when matched with the deeper issues. The ways of living that really keep us healthy and well are more energy based.
I ain’t no guru, heaven knows I am extremely flawed, so this is not my particular rant. I have a ways to go before I can position myself as a spiritual teacher. But truly, I love when the truth is told, without any mincing of words…”Nutrition is no match for deceit”..think about it.
You already know I believe in nourishing and nurturing ourselves beautifully and with care. And of course organic or farm fresh or local food, whatever, is a lovely thing. But it’s also essential to put things in their proper place and I am always grateful when somebody does it with such economy.. just say it already. I do love that about Caroline Myss. Her truths sting.. sometimes they just stop me in my tracks. But I don’t forget them. Truth is funny that way, it stays with us because as the saying goes our soul loves the truth.
Consider everything that you are feeding yourself today. What are you practicing, what beliefs and actions will really serve you? If you feel moved, drop me a line in the comments box and let me know how this landed for you.
With love from me to you, Lisa

This hit me like a ton of bricks too; I have been nourishing myself with supplements and good food and not taking care of my deep spiritual need for transparent wholeness. Thank you…

Fantastic quote. I actually came to that understanding from a different direction – I recently improved my diet and have added some supplements, which has helped me feel better and start to lose some of the weight that’s been hanging around since I stopped being a “Restrictor”. I’m now realizing that the only reason this is happening, and the reason it took so long was because I had to work through the deeper issues first. That quote is wonderful confirmation of why my journey has been the way it is.

Christina- so glad you stopped by! The deeper issues as you said are so important to appreciate AND it’s my belief that we can make the practical and physical or emotional changes while we are also looking at those issues, they tend to move together. As we feel better and sustain ourselves in more reasonable ways, give ourselves more love and pour more respect into our beings, the easier it can be to move through the rest. Thanks for the comment and for reading. Love, Lisa
